WHO is Pleo?

For those who have heard of the toy named Pleo and wonder why I used ‘who’ instead of ‘what’ I must say this is not a common toy. Pleo’s behaviour makes us think of a pet, not just a sophisticated invention for boys and girls to play with.

Pleo looks like a miniature dinosaur, green and very realistic. He moves about just like his ‘ancestors’, shuffling his feet the way those huge prehistoric reptiles did. Once you’ve seen this cute little creature, you will fall in love with him at once.

Pleo reacts to his surroundings due to the camera placed in his head, the microphones he has for ears and those sensors hidden in his feet. The 14 motors present will allow him to move in many ways, even limp or curl up if you hurt him. What is extraordinary about his life cycle is that he needs to get some sleep any time he feels tired. The battery will provide about ninety minutes of play (if it is fully charged) but then this fantastic baby dinosaur will go to sleep until his battery has been recharged again.

Pleo also needs food but not the kind you may think of. There is a green plastic leaf in his box which he needs to bite from time to time, as if he had his daily meals. That will make him very happy and you will know it by the cute sounds he makes any time he feels the leaf in his mouth.

Due to his natural looks and behaviour, Pleo is for many people a better choice than a cat or a dog. Besides, he needs no litter box!
